Am vergangenen Wochenende reiste das Mach1 Motorsport Team zum Finale der Deutschen Junioren Kart Meisterschaft. Der Youngster Marcel Schultheiß zeigte eine starke Leistung, wurde dafür aber nicht belohnt.

In den freien Trainingssitzungen und dem Zeittraining lief noch alles nach Plan für das Team des deutschen Chassisherstellers Mach1. Mit Position neun im Zeittraining hatte Marcel eine gute Ausgangslage für die Qualifikationsrennen. Im ersten kämpfte er sich nach vorne und wurde guter Sechster. Zusätzlich konnte er die schnellste Rennrunde auf den Asphalt zaubern. Doch ab dem zweiten Durchgang verließ Schultheiß das Glück an diesem Wochenende. Er musste sein Kart in der letzten Runde im Aus abstellen und fiel dadurch im Klassement bis auf Rang 18 ab.

Für den Sprint am Sonntagmorgen hatte sich das Team jedoch einiges vorgenommen: “Gestern lief es bis auf den zweiten Vorlauf sehr gut. Marcel muss sich am Start aus allem heraushalten, dann sollte ein Platz in den Top-Ten möglich sein”, gab sich Teamchef Martin Hetschel zuversichtlich. Leider kam es anders. Direkt nach dem Start fand Marcel sich in der Wiese wieder und musste dem Feld hinterher hechten. Mit schnellen Rundenzeiten stellte er den Anschluss wieder her und wurde am Ende noch 16. Das Finale verlief nicht wesentlich besser. Schon auf Position zehn fahrend, warf ihn ein unfaires Manöver des hinter ihm fahrenden Konkurrenten weit zurück und er sah das Ziel nach 18 Rennrunden auf dem enttäuschenden 14. Rang.

Martin Hetschel am Abend über den Verlauf des Wochenendes: “Uns fehlt einfach noch das letzte Quäntchen Glück. Die Performance unseres Materials hat wieder gestimmt und auch Marcel hat sein fahrerisches Können bewiesen. Er wird nun in der WSK Masters Series starten und dort wichtige internationale Erfahrung sammeln.”

Für das Mach1 Team steht nun eine logistische Herausforderung an. Die Mannschaft wird am kommenden Wochenende beim zweiten Lauf der CIK-FIA U18 Weltmeisterschaft im spanischen Alzanic antreten.

Mach1 Motorsport at the DJKM Final in Hahn

Last weekend the Mach 1 Motorsport team travelled to the finals of the German Junior Kart Championship at the Hahn/Hunsrück circuit. The Pilot Marcel Schultheiss did a great job but got no honour for his work.

In the free practice sessions and the qualifying the Mach1 Pilot showed a great performance and with place nine he had a good positon for the heats. In the first race everything gone well, Marcel set the fastest time and finished as sixth. But in the second heat the Mach1 Motorsport Team lost his luck for this weekend. Marcel had to park his kart in the final lap and fell off up to rank 18.

For the sprint on Sunday morning, the team was confident: “Without the second race, yesterday was a good day. Marcel needs a good start, then it should be possible to finish in the top-ten”, team boss Martin Hetschel before the start. Unfortunately, it turned out differently. Directly after the start Marcel crashed and was at the end of the field. With fast lap times he overtook some drivers and was at 16th the end. The final wasn’t better. Already on the 10th place a further collision threw him back and he saw the finish line after 18 laps at the 14th Rank.

At the evening Martin Hetschel about the weekend: “We simply lack the last bit of luck. The performance of our material was very positive again and Marcel has demonstrated his driving skills. Now he will start in the WSK Masters Series to collect more international experience.”

Now the Mach 1 team have a logistical challenge. The team will compete next weekend the second round of the CIK-FIA U18 World Championship in the Spanish Alzanic.
