Nella prima gara che anticipa la stagione dei campionati internazionali, la Squadra Ufficiale della CRG-Maxter raccoglie buoni risultati e utili indicazioni tecniche.
In KZ2 Thonon e Kozlinski si confermano protagonisti, buon debutto di Torsellini.
In KF3 Max Verstappen conquista il secondo posto dopo aver dominato nelle manches.

Bilancio decisamente positivo quello ottenuto dalla squadra ufficiale CRG-Maxter nella 16ª edizione della Winter Cup di Lonato, nella classica gara internazionale di inizio stagione dove puntualmente si ritrova tutto il mondo del karting per iniziare a misurare le proprie forze in vista della nuovo anno agonistico. Si è trattato di un bel test di verifica e di un confronto che la CRG come al solito ha affrontato con il massimo scrupolo, mettendo a diposizione dei suoi piloti tutte le innovazioni tecniche sviluppate sui telai CRG e sui motori Maxter.

Un dato interessante è arrivato puntualmente dalla categoria più professionale, la KZ2, dove la CRG ha affiancato ai suoi campioni Jonathan Thonon, Arnaud Kozlinski e Davide Forè, anche il giovane e promettente Mirko Torsellini, al suo debutto ufficiale con la factory bresciana. Ebbene, i risultati ottenuti sono stati molto positivi per tutto il weekend, con la CRG ancora una volta posizionata ai vertici della categoria.

Peccato per le bizze del tempo che domenica per la fase finale ha condizionato i valori in campo espressi in maniera eccellente sia nelle prove che nelle manches di qualificazione dai piloti “all blacks”. Peccato perché la classifica finale della 16. Winter Cup avrebbe potuto essere diversa.

A brillare nelle manches di qualificazione erano stati un po’ tutti gli alfieri della CRG, a cominciare da Arnaud Kozlinski, che con il terzo posto assoluto al termine delle eliminatorie (con una vittoria) ha confermato la bontà di un personale sviluppo sul motore Maxter portato avanti dal pilota francese. Ma a brillare nelle manches come al solito era stato anche Jonathan Thonon (quinto) e pronto all’affondo vincente in finale, così come il sorprendente Mirko Torsellini, rivelazione del weekend per essere sempre stato sui tempi dei migliori e alla fine buon ottavo assoluto. Un po’ di sfortuna per due incidenti aveva invece relegato Davide Forè al repechage, dal quale comunque ne era uscito con un bel secondo posto.  

Determinante è stata quindi la pioggia leggera che ha iniziato a scendere pochi minuti prima del via della prefinale: chi ha azzardato le gomme slick ha indovinato la scelta, chi ha preferito le gomme rain, come i piloti CRG, ha pagato con una prestazione non adeguata. Dopo infatti un inizio spettacolare di Thonon in testa seguito da Kozlinski e Torsellini, la cavalcata dei piloti CRG è praticamente terminata quando la pioggia ha smesso di cadere e l’asfalto si è asciugato, facendo ben presto prevalere i piloti che avevano optato per le gomme slick. In finale, sotto la pioggia, è stato Thonon a ottenere il miglior risultato, con un quarto posto conquistato “con il coltello fra i denti” e le gomme rain finite. Kozlinski ha concluso ottavo dopo aver subito un tamponamento, Forè e Torsellini sono stati messi KO per incidente.

Sulla sfortunata fase finale, ha ben sintetizzato Nicol Tinini: “Nella prefinale della KZ2 tutti i nostri piloti hanno preferito montare le gomme da bagnato confidando sull’aumento della pioggia, invece ben presto la pista si è asciugata. Per di più si sono trovati a correre la finale con le gomme rain già consumate. Questa volta la fortuna non ci ha davvero aiutato…”.

La CRG ha potuto riscattarsi in KF3, con Max Verstappen sul secondo gradino del podio della finale (disputata sotto la pioggia) dopo che il giovane pilota olandese si era rivelato dominatore assoluto nelle manches di qualificazione. Per i colori della squadra ufficiale CRG in KF3 hanno corso anche il giovanissimo olandese Max Koebolt e il cinese di Hong Kong Jacky Chan. Ambedue si sono fermati dopo le manches di qualificazione, ma hanno fatto vedere bei progressi.

In KF2 Andrea Dalè ha ben combattuto. Dopo un bel secondo posto nella prima manche è incappato nella sfortuna di qualche contatto di troppo, finendo nel repechage da dove è risalito con il secondo posto. Poi in finale, con la pioggia, non si è potuto esprimere al meglio ed ha terminato al 21º posto. Il russo Ivan Nikitchenko è stato rallentato da diversi incidenti, nel repechage sia è piazzato 16º e non ha potuto accedere alla fase finale. Il pilota russo ha fatto vedere comunque un ottimo potenziale.

Le Interviste

Giancarlo Tinini, presidente CRG SpA: “Questa prima uscita di stagione è andata abbastanza bene. Avevamo da testare alcune soluzioni nuove e cercavamo delle conferme. Il tempo poi non ci ha aiutato per le gare finali della domenica, ma per noi era importante verificare alcune evoluzioni tecniche. La nostra stagione ufficiale inizierà fra circa un mese con il WSK Euro Series, per poi proseguire nei Campionati CIK-FIA, ci stiamo preparando per esprimere tutte le nostre potenzialità in questi appuntamenti.”

Jonathan Thonon (KZ2): “Abbiamo avuto una settimana con condizioni atmosferiche ideali fino a domenica quando è arrivata la pioggia. In prefinale, con la pista che si è asciugata, sono comunque arrivato primo fra i piloti che usavano gomme da acqua. Abbiamo scelto di partire con le gomme rain perché in quel momento abbiamo ritenuto semplicemente pericoloso gareggiare con le gomme slick. Un minuto dopo la fine della gara è tornata la pioggia, se fosse arrivata un attimo prima il risultato sarebbe stato molto diverso. Poi in finale, con le gomme finite, da undicesimo sono risalito fino al quarto posto, direi non male.”

Arnaud Kozlinski (KZ2): “Ho iniziato lo sviluppo di un nuovo motore Maxter da poco tempo, ma sono soddisfatto per i risultati già raggiunti. Ho fatto il quarto tempo in prova, nelle manches ho ottenuto una vittoria, un terzo e un quarto posto, quindi direi molto bene anche perché sono stato in grado di lottare subito per le prime posizioni. E questo è un bel segnale per il futuro, i tecnici della Maxter hanno lavorato molto bene.”

Davide Forè (KZ2): “Nelle prove fino a giovedì sera abbiamo lavorato molto bene, e c’erano tutte le premesse per poter fare un bel risultato. Poi nelle manches mi sono successi un paio di incidenti che mi hanno reso la situazione più difficile. In finale, nonostante le gomme finite in prefinale, ero già ottavo nel primo giro ma un rivale mi è venuto addosso e la mia Winter Cup è finita in quel momento. Sono comunque fiducioso per le prossime gare.”

Max Verstappen (KF3): “Dopo essere andato molto bene in prova e nelle manches di qualificazione, sotto la pioggia di domenica non siamo riusciti a trovare il giusto set-up per il telaio. Sono comunque tranquillo e ottimista per la stagione che sta per iniziare.”

International - CRG takes stock of the first results of its CRG-Maxter Official Team in the 16th Winter Cup of Lonato

In the first race, which anticipates the season of the international championships, the CRG-Maxter Official Team gathers good results and useful technical indications.
In KZ2 Thonon and Kozlinski confirm to play a leading role. good debut for Torsellini.
In KF3 Max Verstappen achieves the second place after dominating the heats.

CRG takes stock of the first positive results achieved by its CRG-Maxter official team in the 16th edition of the Winter Cup of Lonato, the classical international race at the beginning of the season, where the all the world of karting starts to verify the potentialities of teams and of constructors just before the forthcoming racing season. It was a good test and a challenge that CRG faced, as usual, with the utmost attention to the details, putting at the disposal of its drivers all the technical breakthroughs developed on the CRG chassis and on the Maxter engines.

Interesting results came unfailingly from the most professional category, the KZ2, where CRG’s champions Jonathan Thonon, Arnaud Kozlinski and Davide Forè, had the young and promising Mirko Torsellini by their side, at his debut for the Italian constructor. Well, the results were quite positive throughout the whole weekend, with CRG once again among the best of the category.

It was a pity that the inconstant weather conditioned the race on Sunday, levelling the real values of the teams on the track. CRG’s “all-black” drivers, until then, had performed excellently both in the time trials and in the heats: the final ranking of the 16th Winter Cup could have been different.

More or less, all the standard-bearers of CRG managed to stand out, starting from Arnaud Kozlinski, who - with an overall third place at the end of the qualifying heats (with a win) - confirmed the good set-up work the French driver made on the Maxter engine. As usual, also Jonathan Thonon (fifth) stood out in the qualifying heats and was ready to play a leading role in the final as well as the surprising Mirko Torsellini, the real revelation of the weekend for his being always with the fastest drivers and, eventually, achieving an overall 8th position. On the other hand, David Forè was a bit unlucky: two crashes pushed him back and obliged him to take part in the second-chance heats, where anyway he classified second.

So, the light and occasional rain which started to fall just few minutes before the start of the pre-final was decisive: those who risked the slick tyres made the right choice; those who preferred the rain tyres, such as CRG’s drivers, paid dear for their choice. In fact, after Thonon’s outstanding start, who took the lead followed by Kozlinski and Torsellini, CRG’s drivers’ ride ended right when the rain ceased to fall and the asphalt dried, allowing the drivers with slick tyres to prevail. In the final, under the rain, Thonon got the best result with a fourth place achieved fighting inch by inch with his totally worn out rain tyres. Kozlinski ended up eighth after being touched in the rear, Forè and Torsellini were knocked out by a crash.

Nicol Tinini, talking about the final phase, says it right: “in the KZ2 pre-final, all our drivers preferred to mount rain tyres thinking it would rain more and more. On the contrary, the track got dry very soon. Moreover, they found themselves in the final with worn out rain tyres. This time we didn’t have any luck at all.”

CRG was able to do much better in KF3, thanks to Max Verstappen who went on the second step of the podium of the final (raced under the rain) after dominating the qualifying heats. Also the young Dutch Max Koebolt and the Chinese from Hong Kong Jacky Chan ran for the colours of CRG official Team. Both of them stopped after the qualifying heats, but showed good progresses anyway.

In KF2 Andrea Dalè fought well. After a good second place in the first heat, he was involved in some contacts and ended up in the second-chance heats where he placed second. Then, in the rainy final, could not do any better than a 21st place. The Russian Ivan Nikitchenko was slowed down by several accidents and in the second-chance heats placed 16th and could not be admitted to the final phase. However, the Russian driver showed to be endowed with excellent potentialities.

The Interviews

Giancarlo Tinini, CRG SpA Chairman: “This first meeting of the season went quite well. We needed to test some solutions and we were looking for positive confirmations. The weather didn’t help us for Sunday’s final races, but what counted for us was verifying some technical evolutions. Our official season starts in about a month with the WSK Euro Series and it continues with the CIK-FIA Championships. We are getting ready to express all our potential in these meetings.”

Jonathan Thonon (KZ2): “We had a week with ideal weather conditions until Sunday, when the rain arrived. In the pre-final, with the track getting drier, I managed anyway to arrive first among the drivers with rain tyres. We decided to start with rain tyres because we thought it was too dangerous to run with slick tyres. A minute after the end of the race it started raining again: if it had arrived a minute before, we would have had a totally different result. Then, in the final, with worn out tyres, from the 11th place I managed to reach the 4th place: not too bad, after all.”

Arnaud Kozlinski (KZ2): “I’ve started the development of a new Maxter engine not so long ago, but I’m rather satisfied for the results we got. I got the fourth time in the trials, in the heats I got a win, a third and a fourth place. After all it wasn’t this bad, also because I was able to fight immediately for the first positions. This is a good signal for the future: the Maxter technicians have worked really well.”

Davide Forè (KZ2): “In the trials, until Thursday evening, we worked very well and there were all the makings of a good result. Then in the heats I got involved in a couple of accidents which made the situation really tricky. In the final, despite the tyres which had been worn out during the pre-final, I was eighth in the first lap, but one of my rivals crashed onto my kart and my Winter Cup ended on that moment. Anyway, I feel confident for the forthcoming races.”

Max Verstappen (KF3): “After doing really well in the trials and in the heats, under Sunday’s rain we couldn’t find the right set-up for the chassis. Anyway, I feel relaxed and confident about the season which is just about to start.”

Na primeira corrida da temporada que antecipa os campeonatos internacionais, a equipa oficial da CRG-Maxter recolhe bons resultados e reúne informações técnicas úteis.
Na KZ2 Thonon e Kozlinski confirmam a condição de protagonistas e boa estréia de Torsellini.
Na KF3 Max Verstappen levou o segundo lugar depois de dominar nas baterias.

Um balanço decididamente positivo foi obtido pela equipe oficial da CRG-Maxter na 16ª edição da Winter Cup de Lonato, na clássica prova internacionais no início de abertura da temporada, onde regularmente todo o mundo do karting se encontra para começar a medir suas forças, tendo em vista o novo ano de competições. Foi um bom teste e um desafio que enfrentou CRG, como de costume, com a máxima atenção aos detalhes, colocando à disposição dos seus pilotos de todos os avanços técnicos desenvolvidos sobre o chassis CRG e nos motores Maxter.

Resultados interessantes foram obtidos na categoria mais profissional, a KZ2, em qual os campeões CRG Jonathan Thonon, Aranuld Kozlinski e Davide Forè, tiveram o jovem e promissor Torsellini Mirko ao seu lado, em sua estréia oficial com o fabricante da Brescia. Os resultados foram muito positivos ao longo de todo o final de semana, com a CRG, mais uma vez, no topo da categoria.

Foi uma pena que o tempo inconstante influenciou a corrida no domingo, nivelando por baixo os reais valores dos pilotos da equipe “all black”, por que até então, a CRG tinha um excelente desempenho tanto no tempo nos treinos, quanto nas baterias. Pena, porque a classificação final do 16º Winter Cup poderia ter sido diferente.
